CTU Directorate Participates in TRACKforTIP Community of Practice Regional Exchange Forum in Panama
Director of the CTU, Mr. Allan Meiguel and Deputy Director of the CTU, Ms. Dane-Marie Marshall recently participated in UNODC’s TRACKforTIP Community of Practice Regional Exchange, from April 18-19, 2024, in Panama City, Panama.
Transforming Alerts into Criminal Justice Responses to Combat Trafficking in Persons within migration flows (TRACKforTIP) is a multi-year initiative launched in 2019 by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and supported by the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (JTIP) at the United States Department of State. TRACKforTIP is being implemented in eight countries across South America and the Caribbean with actions at the national and regional level in Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba and Curaçao, as well as Panama since April 2023.
The main objective of TRACKforTIP is to enhance the national and regional criminal justice response to human trafficking among migration flows, while following a victim-centered and multidisciplinary approach to identify, prevent and prosecute cases.
In April 2023, the CTU and UNODC developed the Trafficking in Persons: ‘Concept and Standing Operating Procedures to identify and combat Human Trafficking’. This manual was designed as a guide to streamline all procedural framework for Law Enforcement officers who investigate or support with investigations in Trafficking in Persons.
During the Best Practices Regional Exchange Forum, the CTU Directorate presented on good practices identified by Trinidad and Tobago as well as engaged with fellow regional partners in sharing experiences. The authorities of the beneficiary countries were also given the opportunity to exchange and learn about experiences, practices and results that have generated change and have a promising and sustainable impact on human trafficking in their countries.
