John Eckstein, was appointed a Senator by then Prime Minister George Chambers and served as the Minister of Public Utilities and National Transportation from 1981 - 1985. During the last year of that term in Office from 1985 - 1986 he served as Minister of Health and the Environment.
Eckstein fought and lost the 1986 General Elections. In 1991, he won the Arouca South Constituency and was appointed Minister of Health, a position he held from 1991 - 1995. Thereafter, he served briefly as the Minister of National Security from May to December 1995.
After his ministerial tenure, Eckstein was appointed Chairman of the Eastern Regional Health Authority in 2002 and the North Central Regional Authority in 2004. Currently, Eckstein serves as Chairman of the Airport Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, a position he has held since 2007.
